These rookies who were all big-shots in the first part of the Grand Line don't know their place. Luffy and Law are right; they have to wait for their time, i.e., they have to become stronger.
"Our captain will save us!" - What utter bull crap that is. They won't get anywhere with that attitude. Trafalgar Law and Luffy know that to move forward, they must first take a step back, or in other words, train and prepare before setting off for the "New World". Law is right; the One Piece won't go anywhere. The time-skip will take place soon, and it'll jump forward by 2 years. I'd be surprised if even a single one of those rookies manage to survive the harsh reality of the "New World" by then.

true, the next 2 years they only achieve things that the straw hats can achieve in a matter of months, well law doesn't really aim for the top, and would rather use his time to place his plans to make things easy, unlike the others who just rush in new world to reach one piece, its like an ascension stage/quest, you can either take the quest right now without plans for the next level or level up you and your party members stats to be ready for the higher levels

Trafalgar sure is wise but I'm not sure about the rest. Luffy only wanted to get stronger so he could protect his comrades. Had they all not been separated, or Ace died, they would've most likely continued their journey going to the new world just like the rest of his rivals.

You could say that the subsequent events Luffy went through prevented him from making a reckless decision that might've cost the lives of his comrades.

But well, say none of the past events happened and they went to the new world, what doesn't kill them will surely make them stronger.

yeah, in future episodes we find out that quite a lot of them survived, but it was only Kid who was really famous tho. that doesn't mean that every single one of their crews survived tho; just the strong ones who were quick to adapt. I guess Luffy and Law don't want anyone dying, and Kid ,well, let's just say all his crew members are strong enough

The really interesting thing about the last couple of episodes is how strongly it follows the idea of "show don't tell". Oda doesn't tell us outright what Luffy's actions mean, we are left somewhat to interpret what is going on, and I think that is really cool.

I was thinking the same. It's possible that the island Chopper was sent to is actually Ohara. And these villagers might be survivors and their descendants because it's not guaranteed that you'd develop sophisticated technology just because you have access to knowledge in just 20 years. Meanwhile Ohara was known as a place where great minds gathered.
